Others WWW Wednesdays

WWW Wednesday | 2/2/2022

Hello, my fellow Spirals!

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words. The three Ws are:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?
The Silence of the Girls – Pat Barker

I had been itching for a while to pick this up but once I did, I nearly regretted it. Not because the book is bad, no it’s great, but it’s so hard to digest. This book is written about the Trojan war through Briseis’s perspective. Greek myth is dark as it is, but hearing the story through women’s perspective and what they underwent is so much darker and harder. That’s patriarchy at its worst. (Goodreads)

The Gene – Siddhartha Mukherjee

I have been reading this book for nearly a month now but it’s fine. This book is huge and equivalent to two non-fiction books so I am not putting too much pressure on myself. I am taking this slow. (Goodreads)

Loveless – Alice Oseman

So I was prepping another blog post where I was talking about how reading has opened me up to so many new things. And it got me thinking about how there are so many books with straight, gay or bi-sexual characters. But nothing about asexuality or pan-sexuality. That’s exactly what made me pick this book up and I am so glad to be learning about it. This book is simply brilliant and would strongly recommend it to everyone.

This book revolves around Georgia who is 18, in college and hasn’t kissed anyone or wanted to kiss anyone yet. As she tries to put herself out there, mingle with people, find love, she also tries to figure out her sexuality. It is all about figuring yourself out, friendship, peer pressure and so much more. (Goodreads)

People We Meet on Vacation – Emily Henry

If you have followed my blog for a while then you would know that I am not a huge fan of romance. Somehow they just don’t appeal to me. But Beach Read was the first romance book that I genuinely enjoyed it liked. I have been looking for a fluffy and light read for a while after reading so many dark books continuously. And what better time to pick this up than the month of Valentine’s day? (Goodreads)

On Wednesday I finished Jon Kalman Stefansson’s The Heart of Man and thus a trilogy and also the oldest books on my TBR, so that felt good. Moved on to an English seaside romance whose title eludes me right now, which is well-done though a bit odd in places, and The Book of Reykjavik, my last Nordic read for that challenge and an Indie book for Kaggsy’s ReadIndies month this month, which is short stories and very enticing so far. Nice choices there, The Gene is huge so well worth taking your time over!
